Hoglund Racing Wins Family of the Year
Hoglund Racing Wins Family of the Year
at WSA Pro-Ice Racing Year End Awards Banquet

Hard work, dedication and skill paid off for Hoglund Racing, as they won three special awards at the 2009 year end WSA Pro-Ice awards banquet. Through their presence at the track and bond as a family, the Hoglund’s earned the votes of their peers and became WSA’s newest “Family of the Year.” This title is held with high regards in the racing community and the Hoglund’s are proud to have won it.

In addition to being part of the Family of the Year, Max Hoglund took home two other awards of his own. The Most Improved Junior Driver of the Year award is given to the Junior driver who has shown the most progression throughout the season. After victories in each of the Junior classes he raced in, it was apparent that Hoglund’s racing skills were getting nothing but better. Although it is always an honor to win this award, it was a huge accomplishment this year as the Junior classes had more drivers than they had in any years previously. Of all the classes Hoglund raced in, he was most victorious in the Junior 600 Fan class. As a result of his finishes throughout the season, he also took home the title of Junior 600 Fan Points Champion.

Trevor Fontaine turned heads as he made his debut in the Semi-Pro Champ class this year on board the Hoglund Racing Champ 440. After multiple wins in the class, his peers voted him as the Most Improved Semi Pro Driver, a title Fontaine is proud to hold after competing at the Semi-Pro level for just one season.

Women's Ice Oval Racing
Revival of Women's Ice Oval Racing

The involvement of women racers in oval racing has been almost non-existent over the past few seasons. With many long time women racers leaving the sport and no new ones to replace them, there hasn't been a consistent group to race and therefore, no women's class. Change, however, has finally come. A women's class was reintroduced to the oval racing community this past 2008-2009 season as well as a new group of women racers. The Women's 380 class was introduced at the race in Forest Lake, Minnesota and had two competitors. The number of entries in the class at the following race in Garrison, Minnesota more than doubled, as eight women racers, ranging from age ten to late twenties, competed in the class. The class proved itself as a success and many women racers have already dedicated themselves to competing in the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The class follows the rules of the Junior I Stock 380 Fan class and any female from age 10 and on is welcome to enter the class. If you would like any more information about this class, please contact Lindsey Fontaine.
